Read More on Search Engine MarketingIt seems everyone would agree that you need to register your site with all the search engines.

Statistics are constantly being thrown around that 85% of your search engine traffic comes from three sources...Yahoo, Excite and Infoseek.

If this is true, it makes sense to try your hardest to conquer these three. Of these, the most difficult one is Yahoo. They say it takes anywhere from 8 months to a year to get listed with this one. With it being such an important search engine, is there a way to get listed quicker? The answer is yes!

Several years ago when I launched my web site, I made one of the most important decisions I would ever make as a web site owner. I spent $199.00 and used "Yahoo!'s Business Express Program." What this program does is guarantees you that you will be listed with Yahoo in seven days. Believe me when I say "it's worth every penny."

For my site, it only took five days and I immediately saw results. After two years, let me share with you statistics from my tracking software. 81% of my traffic comes from Yahoo, 7% from Excite, 6% from Infoseek and the remaining 6% comes from all the others. My sales offset the cost in just a few days. But before you run off and plop down $199.00, you must make sure all your ducks are in a row.

Understand, Yahoo doesn't mess around. If things are not absolutely perfect, you might as well just flush that $199.00 down the toilet. Ask yourself if you can answer "YES" to the following statements and this will let you know if you are ready to take on Yahoo!

* My site must be a commercial web site based in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, or the United Kingdom with the official business name visible to any visitor to that site;
* My site must not already appear in the Directory;
* My site must support multiple browsers and capabilities (e.g. no Java-only sites);
* My site must be in the English language;
* My site must not contain any parts under construction;
* All links on my site must work (and must link to relevant content);
* My site must contain substantively unique content, as determined by Yahoo!'s editorial staff (for example, a user who submits multiple URLs to the same content is not submitting substantively unique content);
* My site must clearly define the purpose, products, and/or services of the business;
* If my site is applicable to a specific geographic region, the address must be visible to any visitor to that site;
* My site must not contain any content, products, services or other information that, in Yahoo!'s reasonable determination, may be illegal to sell under any applicable law, statute, ordinance or regulation, that may infringe or violate anyone's rights, or that, Yahoo! believes, in its sole discretion, is inflammatory, offensive, or otherwise inconsistent with the spirit of Yahoo! Business Express.

If you can answer yes to all of the above, you are ready to take on the "Bad Boy" of search engines.

I hope this helps in your future marketing decisions.
