The one huge mistake that online business people tend to make is setting up junk email accounts that they never bother to check. I'm guilty, as well! I had any number of these junk accounts when I first started my online business. Not checking your accounts, though, will result in bouncing email that will anger and frustrate your email server and the companies that are sending you email. It will get your accounts shut down, and get you banned from various services. It's just a bad habit. If you decide that you want to use submission services to submit your site to FFA (Free For All advertising sties), you will receive TONS of email. In this case, you may be able to set up your email account to automatically delete mail after a certain time period. Just be sure not to use the address for any important correspondence! There are a lot of free email services out there to choose from. I will walk you through setting up accounts at Yahoo, although you are welcome to set up accounts wherever you like. Your own ISP may offer you the ability to set up multiple screen names (AOL allows up to 6), and if you don't have to share with other family members, this may be the best option for you. Be warned, however, that some email services are BANNED from various programs. This is due to the extremely large amount of bounces, or returned mail, that subsequently clog up the company's email server, costing them valuable time, money and resources. Most companies do allow Yahoo and Hotmail addresses, but be sure to check terms of service. 1. Go to http://www.yahoo.com 2. At the top of the page, you will see the words "Yahoo". Just to the left of the "Yahoo", you should see an icon of an envelope that says "Check Email". Left click on that link. 3. Once at the Sign In page, you will have the opportunity to sign up as a new user. If you are already using Yahoo! Mail, you will need to click on the link under your sign in box that says, "Sign in as different user". Click "Sign up now" to open a new account. 4. Choose from the available account options (Free, Custom, or Business) and click on "Sign Me Up!" 5. Okay, now you are ready to enter your information. Chances are, if you choose the "Free" option, your first choice of email names will be taken. You may need to get creative! You will be setting up at least 4 email accounts. It will be helpful if you can keep the user names for all of your accounts as close to the same as possible. Example: Yourname1@yahoo.com Yourname2@yahoo.com Yourname3@yahoo.com Yourname4@yahoo.com I also recommend that you keep the password for all of your email accounts the same. 6. Fill out all of the required information. I recommend leaving the "People Search" option blank, as well as the option that says "Contact Me Occasionally". 7. Enter the security code that goes into the white empty box and press "Submit Form". 8. Click on "Continue to Yahoo! Mail". Congratulations! You have created your first account! Now go back and do it a few more times. (Note: Remember, it may be necessary to click on "Sign in as different user" before you can sign up for a new account.) 9. Make note of your new email addresses and your passwords in your small notebook. You can use your email accounts in whatever way you wish. I recommend that you earmark each account for a specific purpose .. one for your Business Contact email, one for your Affiliate program information, one for use with safelists and advertising, and one for your ezine subscriptions and reports. If you feel that you may have more uses for additional email accounts, go ahead and set them up. The important thing is that you get in the habit of checking your email daily, and immediately delete what you don't need and file what you do need. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © 2003 MarketingPitbull.com All rights reserved.
