Classified advertising is one of the most effective and inexpensive advertising methods available, both on and off of the Internet. But writing a good classified ad is confusing to many.

Here as some simple tips to keep in mind that will help you write great classifieds with pull!

1. HEADLINE - Start your classified ad with a headline. This is simply two or three words 'Capitalized' at the beginning of your ad that grab the attention of the reader. Avoid overcapitalization, though, which will appear as if you are screaming at your reader!

2. ACTION WORDS - Use an action word (a verb) at the beginning of your ad. Words like EARN, SAVE, GET, FEEL, DO all encourage the reader to take action.

3. SOLVE A PROBLEM - Can your business or product solve a problem for your potential customer? Let them know! We are all looking for solutions of some kind. Don't waste your ad space bragging about yourself or your company. Prospective clients are more interested in what you can do for THEM.

4. KEEP IT SHORT - Keep your sentences short and easy to read. Don't try to get all the information about your company or product into your ad. The goal of your ad should be to peak the curiosity of the reader enough that they will want more information. Then make sure that they know how to reach you.

5. USE AN AUTORESPONDER - Using an autoresponder address in your ad allows your prospect to send for more information about what you have to offer quickly and easily. It also allows you to capture their email address, so that you can follow up with them later. (For more information on using the 2 part "teaser ad with autoresponder" marketing strategy, please read Marketing Using The 2-Step Email Method.

Consider using a tracking service to test your classified ads. I recommend placing ads in inexpensive places, such as smaller ezines, etc. to start with. It is difficult to test ads that have been placed for free, since the volume of ads that are placed may muddy your results.

Continue to make small modifications to your ads and test them. Once an ad has proven itself effective, you will feel more comfortable placing it in places that may cost you more, but have a much higher return.
