The entire purpose to advertising is to get people to look at your business website and hopefully purchase your services or join your program. In order to get people to look at your website, you need a method of getting your site out into the public where it can be seen. There is no better way of doing this than by using services know as Click-Thrus or Hit/Traffic Exchanges.

Click-Thru services and Traffic exchanges are some of the easiest and least expensive methods of marketing, so it is obvious why they are the most recommended form of advertising, especially to those new to the Internet Marketing Industry. The most beneficial thing about these services is that there are so many of them on the Internet, you have a good chance of your site being seen by interested onlookers.

Have you ever wondered why so many people have no luck promoting their business online? There are many advertising sites that claim they can help you get referrals and help you earn a lot of money online. In truth, most of these programs are actually unable to follow through on these claims. The ones that are able to do what they say are often so advanced, that the average marketer has trouble understanding them and using them.

If there is one thing that you get from this... let this be it... KEEP IT SIMPLE!

You need people to join your program. To do that you need people to look at your website. To get people to look at your website, you need traffic. To get traffic, you need to advertise. There are 2 ways to do this...

  1. Use an ad and hope people click on the link.

  2. Use a Click-Thru and bypass the ad part entirely.

The obvious choice for beginners is to take the second option and bypass the need for ads, emails and third party ad sites. Using a Click-Thru or Traffic Exchange can make getting started easier and faster.

Now.. what is a Click-Thru or Traffic Exchange?

A Click-Thru program or Traffic Exchange is a site based on the "quid pro quo" concept. Quid Pro Quo is Latin for "You help me, I help you". In a Click-Thru service you only get people to look at your URL by taking the time to look at other members' websites.

Everybody using the service has an equal chance, because all the people are sharing their URLs equally. These services use credits, which are exchanged for traffic to your site. Imagine if you spend an hour looking at other people's websites, and in that time view 30 websites, and earn 30 credits. This means that you, in return would get a potential 30 people looking at your website. This example is based on a 1:1 ratio. You will usually be required to stay on a members site for a certain period of time. Generally speaking, it is 20-30 seconds.

A ratio?
When these services use the term "ratio", they refer to the calculation which decides how many credits you get per site you view. Not all programs use a 1:1 ratio, as described above. A ratio usually looks like "X:X" or "X-X" (where X is a number). They are quite simple to understand once you figure out what the numbers mean. The first number refers to the number of sites you are required to visit and the second number refers to how many people will look at your site. Lets look at some examples:

  1. 1:1 - for each site you visit you get 1 hit to your site.

  2. 2:1 - for every 2 sites you visit you get 1 hit to your site.

  3. 1:2 - for each site you visit you get 2 hits to your site.

  4. And so on...

It is important to note that the ratios will change for each program, and that just because a program has a good ratio does not mean it is better than those with lower ratios.

There is a common misconception that these types of services do not work for gaining referrals. This is untrue. In fact, there are many people who have HUGE success with this method of marketing. The fact that people must stay on your site for a period of time means you are more than likely to have those people at least take a look at the page in front of them. If they do not stay on your site for the correct period of time, they do not earn a credit.

The most common comment you may hear is that is takes a long time to earn credits, and can be a waste of time. Look at the chart below for an example of how this is very wrong. This is based on a 1:2 ratio.

  • You spend 1 hour viewing sites per day (or Clicking-Thru as it can be called).

  • You view 100 sites per day, equaling 50 credits (hits to your site).

  • You do this each day for 7 days.

  • This gives you 350 hits to your URL per week (50 hits by 7 days)

Imagine what would happen if you used 2 or 3 of these services at the same time. Yes, you can do that. You can use as many of these services as you wish.
