Communication is one of the key elements of any successful business. Without communication, you and your downline, if you have one, can easily feel very alone and lost. But WHY is communication really so important and necessary?

Communication surrounds us in everything we do. At work, at home, shopping and even when we are sitting at our computers working to build our online businesses, communication is an essential component that allows us to reach our goals with more ease and success. Since we normally communicate with others as a part of our daily lives, the idea of learning how to communicate may seem absurd and a waste of your time.

Yes, you know how to communicate already. What you need to master is the art of expressing yourself in such a way that it helps your business to grow faster, stronger, and more stable.

The communication part of your online business started the minute you joined the program and decided to build an online business. What happened when you joined? You probably received an email from the owner of the program, or your upline, welcoming you to the program.

Unfortunately, a lot of people do not communicate well on the Internet. Some people have sought out online opportunities under the premise that communication with others isn't necessary. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

It doesn't take long to type a quick email to your upline and downline, yet many people do not think of doing this, or feel comfortable enough to do it. But, communication in this industry is an essential part of being a sponsor. The process starts from day 1 when a new member joins in your downline. You should send them an email welcoming them to your downline and introducing yourself.

Why send a welcome letter? You should do this to ensure that your downline is aware of your presence. You want them to come to you for help when they need it. You want them to build their business and earn an income, because as they build their downline, yours will also grow.

Good sponsors also maintain the communication past the welcome letter. Keeping in contact with your downline allows you to develop friendships, support networks and even mentoring opportunities. A good sponsor is one who supports his/her downline, making sure that they are always up-to-date with information.

There are a few rules that you can follow to always maintain good communication.

  • Always welcome new members.
  • Introduce yourself as a person not an upline or sponsor. Tell them where you live, how old you are etc.
  • Become a friend.
  • Keep them up to date with any new information about the program.
  • Send them information about new marketing programs and methods.
  • Let them know you will help them, if they ask.
  • Offer to help them promote.
  • Send them motivating information.
  • ALWAYS reply to all emails you get.
  • If you don't know an answer, tell them you will find out the answer.
  • Make sure you get them an answer when you've said that you will.

Where do you go from here?

Ask yourself the following 3 questions and take note of your answers:

  • Am I a good communicator?
  • Do I contact my downline at all?
  • Does my downline know who I am?

Now look at your answers and ask yourself this:

What can I do to be a better sponsor and communicate better?

If you have not contacted your downline at all, go and send them an email now. It is never too late to help your downline.
