Why? I did all the other things they said to do with my web site. What is this linking all about?

Linking creates path to your website from other sites in the internet. As people follow links to get from one page to another in the net, there is a great chance that people will get to your site if a link to your site is present in the page that they are viewing. This way, the more links there are on other sites, the more your site will be visited.

Linking adds value to your site and thus makes a good impression for Search Engines. If a search engine finds more links for a site from other sites, it perceives that the site must be more interesting and has valuable content in it. Therefore, it prioritizes the site by increasing its ‘Page Rank’ and providing a good placement in SERP (Search Engine Result Page).

Links between websites are the backbone of the web. They allow people to move quickly from one page (or site) to another. This concept allows the world wide web to exist in its current form.

The importance of links can be demonstrated in a variety of studies that have been undertaken over the past few years. All of these studies show that quality inbound links can generate an increase in sales, qualified leads and overall desired traffic.

Some of the benefits of an effective linking strategy are:

1) Search engines give sites with good inbound and outbound links a higher ranking. The logic behind this is that if you provide outbound links to related or complimentary material you are providing a valuable service and if other sites link to you then you must be providing valuable content.

2) Following a link is one of the most popular ways for people to find new sites. For example, if a website has an article talking about products or services that you offer and then provides a link to your website, people are most likely going to follow the link to find out more information.

3) By providing links to other websites, you are providing a service to people visiting your website. They will know that they can always come to your site if they are looking for information as you will either have the information or have links to the information they need.

Link Popularity

Link popularity is the term used for how popular a search engine determines your website to be by looking at the sites that link to it. Many search engines do not just look at the number of links coming in to your site but also the quality of the incoming links and therefore you need to avoid the temptation to utilize Link Farms, as these are not considered to be quality incoming links

Backlinking is an art, and is time consuming, however there are programs that are semi automated, in that they can sort out relevant blogs, and web sites for you to visit, and you can then select the sites to put quality comments on, and hence your link. Methodical posting of this kind, can quickly give you the quality back links, ie. Incoming links that you need to get your page visited and ranked higher with the search engines.
