Read More on Direct Email MarketingIf you are like a large percentage of online business owners who are reluctant to use email marketing because you consider it spam, then you are causing your business to lose an excellent source of potential customers from around the world.

Once you have made the decision to use email marketing as a source of promotion, you will need to compile of list of email addresses to which to send your promotions. The most common way, and not necessarily the best, is to purchase the list from what I like to call "list merchants". One of the major problems of purchasing a list is that you don't know what you are getting. You might get a list of people who have absolutely no interest in your products, on the other hand you might get a few that are interested. Those who are not interested will not even open your email, because they haven't asked for the information.

Most of these people will simply delete your message without even knowing what it is about. Then there are the spam filters supplied by Internet providers that will automatically delete anything that resembles spam. These filters are very adept at reading the subject and contents of a message and will delete anything that remotely resembles spam. So before you think about purchasing, think again, this is one method that I would not recommend.

The best way I have found to creating an email list is through a sign-up form on my webpage. This can be done a variety of ways, including the use of an autoresponder system. Whichever autoresponder you use, they will supply the coding for you to put on your website asking customers who are interested to signup for an e-newletter. Once this is set up, you load the autoresponder with pre-written messages and product information and send them out at intervals throughout the month. The person who signs up gets these messages automatically. You can also send out "broadcast" messages whenever a new product or service comes on the market to let your subscribers know the latest information.

This will provide you with an email list of perspective customers who are interested in your products, and since they have requested the information you are sending them, the chances of having your emails deleted decrease significantly. It is always a good idea when sending these messages that you have your website address and any other addresses that are associated with the email.
