Read More on Building your own WebsiteWhen someone sees a commercial or print ad for a product they are interested in, they will in turn visit the store where they are met by a salesperson that is available to offer additional information on the item. There are no salespeople on most web pages, but there is an Internet equivalent – the landing page.

After you have promoted your product in one of several ways, a landing page is the perfect finishing touch to your marketing job that can often make the difference to your customers and your bottom line. The characteristics of a well built landing page aren’t difficult to accomplish, they just require some extra time and effort on your part.

1. Content

The first characteristic that is absolutely necessary for any landing page is content. Your online marketing was effective enough to get them to click through, but without the sort of relevant content that can attract and hold their attention, your visitors will move on quickly.

Relevant content should most often include a variety of articles that mention either the product directly, or address a problem that the product is intended to solve. Testimonials are also an excellent source of content for your landing page.

2. Who is selling this?

Aside from the presence of top notch content on your landing page, nothing will make a customer feel more at ease and confident than information about the business who is offering the product. That’s you. An “About Us” page can be an important tool in your online marketing arsenal, and one that can lead to increase customer trust and sales.

3. The Web Address

One of quickest ways to gauge the effectiveness of a particular online marketing campaign is to create a separate landing page. The landing page itself doesn’t need to contain any new or different information per se, but it can further increase customer confidence if it is personalize to a certain extent.

For example: For your new online marketing initiative you are advertising on a new website for the first time. Instead of directing visitors to your default web page, you have created a separate page one which the only difference is a greeting to these new visitors. Something as simple as a “Welcome Joe’s Widget Shop Visitors!” type message can be that extra push that your potential customer needs to buy the product you’re offering.

When properly used, a landing page can and will serve to increase your online marketing efforts with nothing more than a few extra minutes of your time.
