We see it nonstop behind hundreds of thousands of online marketers. Page after page of their pitch offers a meeting with the Wizard of Oz, for nothing. And as the pages become more and more specific, they lean us into the pitch...literally. They start talking less about "what ifs" and more about "you're about to." That's a huge difference in the language of expectation. I was recently on a site that promised me FREE WEB TRAFFIC. Leave your negative thoughts and you credit cards at home it went on. And I went into the site, and started delving deeper and deeper into the funnel of it, as a writer I sensed a very different use of the way I was being conditioned. At first it was very circus like and wondrous. But as the pages kept turning, I "saw" the tone of the site move. Big time. The net net? After reaching the inevitable page that I was told that this was a far as I could go on their dime, I was told that to get the PLATINUM package that I would have to pull out the Visa Card.
