I sat back and watched, waiting to see who would rise and who would fall. Well E-gold Ltd, developers of the e-gold system took center stage and for good reason to. Let's get one thing clear. E-gold isn't a bank account. A bank deposit is in effect a loan from the depositor [you] to the bank. Which means the bank is not legally obliged to retain the actual amount of money you deposited in its vaults, it can lend it out to other people without your permission, providing the bank retains a fraction of what you initially deposited. Here's the e-gold difference... when you place gold or someone transfers it into your e-gold account, the ownership of the gold remains with YOU. It isn't a loan. It's called a bailment. This means that E-gold Ltd has to legally physically possess the gold that you bail to them. If they tried to issue more e-gold than they physically had in their vaults they would be committing fraud! So you can see that using the e-gold system means your money is extremely safe, secure and completely private. As E-gold Ltd. themselves say: "E-gold is integrated into an account based payment system that empowers people to use gold as money. Specifically, the e-gold payment system enables people to "Spend" specified weights of gold to other e-gold accounts. Only the ownership changes - the gold in the treasury grade vault stays put." None of the other digital payment systems where backed with anything physical like gold. Never since the dawn of the monetary system have people been able to trade in gold so privately and with such ease. But Is My Money Safe With E-gold? One of the main concerns anyone has when they first start using the e-gold system, is "Am I actually ever going to be able to exchange my e-gold for paper currency?" At the end of 2000 I decided to start accepting e-gold as a way for my more privacy conscious customers to pay me. I was a bit fearful to start with, knowing full well that people would pay me with e-gold because countless times I'd been asked if I accepted it. My concern was that I could be stuck having delivered goods to my customers and then never actually being able to get my hands on the paper money, should I require it. Ohhh who to trust? I asked around a few discussion forums for people who had used the various money changers or in e-gold terminology they call them "exchange market makers". And received some recommendations. However wanting to conduct due diligence I did some research to find out just "who was who" in the e-gold exchange business. One company stuck out called IceGold. I sold some gold to them and within 5 days the money had been wired to my bank account, as promised. Was I impressed???!!! These people did what they said they would and super fast. I liked that. Have I used IceGold since? You bet I have. They deliver outstanding service and in this game they could so easily have walked with my money. They were extremely efficient and I can't rate them highly enough and in case you're wondering I have no connection them. How To Open A Free E-gold Account It's absolutely free to open an e-gold account. All that is required is for you to choose the following: an account name, user name, point of contact name & first line of an address, email address, phone number, passphrase and an alternate passphrase.
