We are all aware that affiliate marketing works, but many people today are still asking, "How does affiliate marketing work?" It sounds like a really easy question to answer, but for some reason, some people tend to make it a lot harder and more complex than it really is. If you really want to know the answer to the question how does affiliate marketing work, then I suggest you follow these six steps.

Step 1: Find a starving audience. When I say this, I mean that you need to find a group of people that are standing in line with their credit card in their hand ready to buy something. Who would be classified as a starving audience you may ask? Well look for people that are willing to buy whatever it is that is going to make them look better, lose weight, get rid of acne, learn how to do something, learn how to do something better, etc. This list goes on and on.

Step 2: Dig deep into this niche. Do not try to compete with the big dogs. When starting out, dig into a niche as deep as possible. If you want to get into weight loss, look for people that are searching how to lose their man boobs, or women that are looking to lose 15 pounds before their wedding day which is three months away. Do not try and build a campaign around the phrase "weight loss" because this is going to be too hard to break into at this early stage of your affiliate marketing career.

Step 3: Select a product or multiple products. Whether you choose an information product from Clickbank, or diet pills, or the latest ab-roller or some other type of physical product, you need to have some things in mind to offer to your customers.

Step 4: Do your keyword research. Since you have already dug down into your niche you should have a nice little list of long tail keywords. Take these keywords and research them. You want to have keywords that are getting searched daily, and you will want to make sure that there is not a lot of competition for this keyword or phrase.

Step 5: Build a blog, a lens, a hub, or an ad where you promote your product. Try to make it informative. Do not try to sell. Give information, give advice, and give reviews. Make sure to include all of your long tail keywords!

When I start a new campaign, I do this. Step by step every time. If you start seeing sales, build and build on that campaign. If you are not seeing anything, move on to the next campaign, but be sure to check stats because every once in a while, a campaign can take a while to get going. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED!!!
