Is there really a comparison possible between public and private domains? They might be governed by more or less the same principles but their goals and the ways of achieving them are as different as night and day. From the time the private sector emerged, its purpose has been to make profit. The public domain, on the other hand, had some other intentions in mind. Their first priority was to take care of the people; to see that their performance in whichever field they were involved was for the betterment of the general public.

Public Domain Gains - Is It A Myth

There are many areas of our society, in which a private sector does not have the authority to enter. Do you think that they will provide services like free health care out of the goodness of their hearts? Can you imagine paying the local garbage man to collect your refuse and keep your neighborhood clean? How about hiring army men to protect your country borders? These services are the monopoly of the public domain for a reason. Public sector's main aim is to provide essential services to the general public without expecting anything in return. Like any other organization they require finance to survive which is supplied to them by the tax-paying public. Their gain cannot be measured in monetary terms.

Private Domains - Necessary For A Bright Future

Compared to public domain, private sector aims to maximize their efficiency by making key persons accountable and thereby achieving profitability in the process. The local or the state government does not govern it in any way. This is the segment which strives to give the public better and superior quality of service, be it in any field. They need to do this in order to survive and also gain a place of strength in the eyes of the general population. Their level of creativity, innovation and service is hard to compare against. As opposed to this most of the public sector industries may find themselves lacking.

Private sector is thoroughly efficient and in the long run costs less than a public sector industry. The staff is motivated and very competitive. They realize the importance of staying ahead in the race. For this the companies also take very good care of their employees to show their appreciation. They promote them as per their performance and give them a handsome salary to maintain loyalty.

With such guidelines, it is possible to imagine that some of the essential services will be diverted to the private domain in the future to preserve quality. An example of this emerging trend would be the government turning to the private sector to maintain and upkeep prisons and also take care of medium and maximum security structures that house prisoners.

This development shows that the general public wants more efficiency and better quality of service and products and is not hesitant in turning towards the private parties to get what they want. Sure, you will need to spend more than what you would have given to the public sector, but no one is complaining when they receive ample value for their money.

Last Notes

There may be many differences between both these sectors and public opinion may weigh heavier on one side, but it remains to be seen what the future would bring. For now both the public as well as the private sector represent the sides of a coin, both of which are extremely important to remain complete.
