Do you feel intimidated by all the technology we are bombarded with every day? Well do not be surprised to hear you are not alone. Many baby boomers are in the same boat and the baby boomers comprise the largest segment of society. They are also the majority of business owners today. Most remember when a good work ethic, honest service and a friendly attitude were all that were needed to build a successful business and in many cases that was how they built the business they have today. My how times have changed. The internet has and it is in the process of changing how business is done, how business is marketed, how people communicate and how people interact. As hard as it is to accept; a warm handshake and a friendly smile are not enough to sell your product or service anymore.Today internet marketing skills should be at the top of any business persons priorities. You just have to have an understanding of internet marketing. Notice I say internet marketing not internet technology. I can show you corporate web sites that utilize all the new technology but do not have a clue about internet marketing and accomplish nothing for the business. In many cases thousands of dollars were spent on technology. You do not want to be one of those business people. Your website is fast becoming the most important marketing avenue for your business and you need to understand that avenue if you plan to survive and prosper in the future. I am always learning and updating my internet marketing skills.
Here are some of the basic elements of a successful business website. 1. It must be informative. People are online looking for information. 2. It must be quick and easy to use. People will not wait. Avoid flash and video. 3. It must capture leads by some sort of opt in button. Most important. A business website should be a source of leads for sales staff to follow up on. 4. It must be changing and updated on a regular basis. The best is daily. Minimum weekly. The worst business site is a dormant site that is never updated. 5. You must offer lots of advice for free continually prompting the visitor to contact you. 6. Testimonials from satisfied customers are an essential part of a good business site. 7. A good auto responder and effective lead management system are essential to effectively reap the benefits of your business website. 8. Traffic. Not just any traffic but traffic from prospective customers. 9. An effective marketing campaign to promote your website. Should include facebook, twitter and pay per click. 10. Integration. Your website needs to be integrated into your whole business identity. By this I mean it needs to be on all your off line advertising including business cards, signage, stationary and print and media advertising. Do not rely on only online advertising to promote your site. Happy Internet Marketing Larry Matthews
